The path to โ€œI doโ€ is often littered with missteps. Getting married is an amazing experience, and we understand if you want everything to be absolutely spot on. Nonetheless, weโ€™re all only human and bound to make mistakes sometimes. So here are 10 wedding couple mistakes to avoid when youโ€™re planning for your grand occasion.

Wedding Couple Mistake #1 – You Announce Your Engagement Too Soon

In this digital age, the majority of us are guilty of sharing things instantly on social media. Your engagement is exciting news, but remember to share this big news with your family and closest friends first before changing your Facebook status. After the outpouring of congrats, be sure to post a quick thank you to the well-wishers!

Wedding Couple Mistake #2 – Making Plans Before Setting a Budget

Before you start any research, sit down together and really take the time to think about the type of celebration you want. List your priorities (i.e., trendy wedding gown, afterparty, etc.) and figure what is most important to both of you. Pre-planning will definitely make selecting a venue and setting a budget much easier. After all, you wouldnโ€™t want to end up spending unnecessarily on something that you couldโ€™ve saved on.

Wedding Couple Mistake #3 – You Purchase Your Outfits Before Choosing the Venue

Before visiting bridal boutiques and tailors, make sure you know the type of wedding youโ€™re holding and where; or at least have an idea of the venue you might choose. Once youโ€™ve chosen your venue, youโ€™d then be able to purchase your outfits accordingly. For instance, you wouldnโ€™t want to wear a three-meter long satin gown for a beach wedding.

Wedding Couple Mistake #4 – Not Having a Rain Plan

As much as you try to study Singaporeโ€™s weather characteristics, always be prepared for the worst โ€“ in this case, rain. Hence if youโ€™re intending to hold an outdoor wedding, be sure to have a backup plan in case it rains because we all know how unpredictable the weather can get. Plus, you donโ€™t want to get drenched in that gorgeous wedding gown!

Wedding Couple Mistake #5 – Trying to Appease Everyone

Most of the time, wedding couples know who they are and what they want at the event. But then it comes to your parents who would like you to follow this tradition or your parents-in-law who would like to invite additional guests. When all these things happen, couples tend to lose sight of what the wedding means to them. If you would like to please your parents and parents-in-law, go ahead, but be sure to speak up for certain things that youโ€™re firm about. Couples often become overwhelmed trying to please everyone that they end up piling additional stress on themselves.

Wedding Couple Mistake #6 – โ€œDigital Brainwashโ€

How many of us are guilty of having a Pinterest account where we go almost berserk pinning images onto various mood boards? While weโ€™re always advising brides-to-be to research in order to gather inspiration early in the planning process, thereโ€™ll come a point where you will have to stop looking at these media sources.
Principal planner at Daughter of Design, Annie Lee, advises that you shouldnโ€™t try to incorporate every cute thing you see on Pinterest into your wedding. She says, โ€œThink about what makes sense for your style and your venue. And once youโ€™ve finished planning, stop looking for more ideas.

Wedding Couple Mistake #7 – Planning an Overstretched Party

We know that itโ€™s your big day, but that doesnโ€™t mean that you go on with a two-page itinerary packed with entertainment. Keep in mind that this is your wedding after all, and primary to entertainment, itโ€™s a day for your guests to join you in the celebration of your love, not to be entertained with performances.

Wedding Couple Mistake #8 โ€“ Packing Them in

Your venue should be able to accommodate your number of guests comfortably. Every guest should have enough room to or dance around without having to feel like theyโ€™re a pack of sardines.

Wedding Couple Mistake #9 โ€“ Skipping Video

We know of couples who have decided to do away with videography during their wedding day. We also understand that this service is a tempting place to cut costs, however, remember that this day only happens once; And nothing compares to being able to relive your wedding day years from then.

Wedding Couple Mistake #10 – Sweating the Small Stuff

Donโ€™t let anything get to you on your wedding day. The worst thing that could happen is for the bride and groom to be grumpy over something that happened (i.e., a tiny stain on your wedding gown). Even if something went wrong, chances are no one else even noticed. So donโ€™t fret about it. Instead, focus on the happy things that are happening and not the trivial matters that didnโ€™t go as planned.
