When Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot in 2011, how many of us were in awe just looking at her wedding gown on television? All of us at La Belle Couture definitely were! As soon as she stepped out of her vintage Rolls Royce Phantom, she revealed her wedding dress to a waiting world audience. Was it worth the wait? All I can say is that we were star struck by the grandeur of her wedding dress. The timeless lace dress was an instant classic!
The dress displayed sumptuous simplicity with its exquisite hand-embroided and appliquéd lace. It featured a fitted bodice, slightly padded at the hips before narrowing at the waist – an inspiration from the Victorian tradition of corsetry. Moreover the long full skirt with soft pleats was designed to echo an opening flower, forming a Victorian-style semi-bustle at the back and finished in a train measuring of about 2.7 metres. Moreover the fairytale design showed the combination of tradition and modernity that matched both Kate’s and designer, Sarah Burton’s visions perfectly.
Said to have been inspired by Grace Kelly’s gown, her dress raved enthusiasm all over the world. Her big reveal took her to the pages of bridal history. Any bride would’ve wanted to wear it! (Plus did you know that her dress now owns its own Wikipedia page!?) It’s an exquisite timeless piece that combines classicism with modern-day chic that shows nothing sort of poise and elegance.
